How a heat gun can make your craft projects more efficient
If your craft project requires glueing a lot of small parts and various materials, a glue gun is a perfect choice. It helps you create neat, strong seams and makes the process faster and more convenient. Heat guns have a wide range of applications and thanks to their versatility, can be used for glueing cardboard, wood and paper, rubber, metals, plastic and ceramic elements, leather and fabrics.
CraftOnline offers a variety of high-quality glue guns, so you can choose the model that is best suited to your needs and requirements. Since we only carry products from leading manufacturers, you can feel confident that our tools are safe and easy to use.
How to use the hot glue gun
All glue guns have a common principle of operation: the glue stick is inserted into the barrel, which contains the melting chamber. When the tool is turned on, the heating element heats up, causing the glue to turn liquid and flow down the barrel to the tip. By opening the outlet with the trigger, you can get a small stream of liquid adhesive and start glueing. You can pause your work at any time, just remember to put the heat gun on a special stand to minimise the risk of accidental spillages.
What type of heat gun to choose
When choosing a glue gun, pay attention to the bar diameter, speed and temperature of heating, power (performance), size and weight. For craft projects, heat guns with motors of about 100 watts are suitable. This is enough to glue small details or fragile materials (for example, flower leaves when creating a bouquet) without damaging them. One of the benefits of craft glue guns is their electronic temperature control, which lets you set the melting temperature of the glue with an accuracy of up to 1 degree Celsius. This is especially helpful when working with delicate materials such as silk, plant leaves or rubber.
To make working with the tool more efficient and safe, you also need some additional products including glue sticks. When choosing heat glue sticks you should know the diameter of the melting chamber of the gun because installing a smaller stick can lead to overheating and breakdown.
You can also purchase a holder or special pad to set the gun down on as you’re working.
